Baccarat for Filipino Players: Rules, Bets & House Edge

Walang diskarte sa pag-draw — the cards follow fixed rules, and your only job is choosing a bet. That makes the math the whole story, so let's go through it.

Short answer

Baccarat has three main bets: Banker, Player and Tie. Fixed rules deal the cards, and the hand nearest 9 wins. Banker is the cheapest bet, with a house edge of about 1.06% after the 5% commission. Player costs about 1.24%. Tie pays 8:1, but its edge is about 14.36%.

How are baccarat hands scored?

The table deals two hands named Banker and Player. The names don't mean you are playing against the bank — you simply back one hand, or bet that they tie.

2 to 9Face value
10, J, Q, K0

Totals above 9 drop the tens digit. A 9 and a 6 make 15, which counts as 5. A King and a 3 count as 3. Highest possible score: 9.

If either hand starts with 8 or 9 on two cards, that's a natural: no more cards, and the round is settled.

When does each hand get a third card?

Nobody decides — the drawing rules are printed into the game.

  • Player takes a third card on a total of 0–5 and stays on 6 or 7.
  • Banker, when Player stayed, takes a card on 0–5 and stays on 6 or 7.
  • When Player did draw, Banker's move depends on its own total and on Player's third card:

Because Banker acts last with extra information, it wins a little more often. That small advantage is the reason the commission exists.

Which baccarat bet costs you the least?

Figures below are for the standard eight-deck game:

BetHow often it winsPayoutHouse edge
Banker45.86%0.95 to 1 (5% commission)about 1.06%
Player44.62%1 to 1about 1.24%
Tie9.52%8 to 1about 14.36%
Player Pair / Banker Pairabout 7.47%11 to 1about 10.36%

On a ₱100 Banker win you collect ₱95 profit; a ₱100 Player win gives ₱100 profit. A ₱100 Tie returns ₱800 profit when it hits — but it hits only about once every ten or eleven hands. When the result is a tie, Banker and Player bets are pushed back to you.

No-commission tables skip the 5% but pay only half on a Banker win with a total of 6. That pushes the Banker edge to about 1.46% — still lower than Tie, but higher than the classic version.

How much does a fast baccarat table really cost?

A low edge doesn't mean a cheap night. Speed and squeeze tables online can run 80 to 100+ rounds an hour. Bet ₱100 on Banker every round for 100 rounds and you've wagered ₱10,000; at 1.06%, the expected cost is roughly ₱106 — and actual swings in that hour are much bigger.

  • Pick a flat bet size and keep it. Raising stakes to "bawi" is the usual way budgets disappear.
  • Skip Tie and the pair side bets — they cost roughly 10 to 14 times more per peso than Banker.
  • Treat the bead plate and Big Road as history only. A shuffled shoe has no trend to follow.

Frequently asked questions

What is the safest bet in baccarat?
Banker, with a house edge of about 1.06% after the standard 5% commission. It is the cheapest bet on the table, but no baccarat bet has a positive expected value, so the house still wins over time.
What happens to Banker and Player bets on a Tie?
They are returned to you as a push. Only Tie bets are paid, at 8 to 1 on most tables. Your Banker or Player stake stays yours.
How is no-commission baccarat different?
No-commission tables do not take 5% from Banker wins. Instead, a Banker win on a total of 6 pays only half. That rule raises the Banker house edge from about 1.06% to about 1.46%.
Can road maps or betting systems beat baccarat?
No. Road maps record past hands and cannot predict the next one, and progression systems only change bet sizes, not the house edge. Every hand is dealt independently from a shuffled shoe.
